1st Step To Follow Your Heart
The first step in following your heart is being open (receptive) and asking yourself questions. Pull out the big Q’s.
The Needle Movers
Ask yourself:
- What do I want?
- What is my legacy?
- What is the most fun thing I can do right now?
- What is my highest excitement?
- What can make the time go quicker and easier for this thing I don’t want to do right now?
The knee-jerk response is letting the brain answer these questions. If you do that, rarely do you get juicy, light answers that make your heart sing.
That is how you know ‘who’ is doing the answering. The answers from your brain ain’t the right answers. They are processed responses, but not felt responses.
Feeling is what you are after here.
Instead, the brain wants to disregard these questions, give snarky responses or give the sound bites, we have been conditioned to give. However, the brain can NOT access the truth of the heart.
Everything has a time and a place, but the brain has no business in the place where the heart reigns.
If you are unwilling to ask yourself hard questions, you will just have more of the same life = same results.
Be open to the answers that come and trust your inner knowing. Chances are they will NOT make sense to your mind.
Act on these promptings EVEN if they seem unrelated to your goal. The point is to be inspired. Inspiration trumps motivation each and every time.
When I have delicious, healthy food to prepare, cooking is something that I look forward to. It is fun and easy for me. This used to feel counter-intuitive to me as I had ‘work’ to do, “I am busy!”
Here is the thing: you can always find ‘work’ to do. However, in the moments when I am forcing myself to work, I am not very productive.
I have learned to allow myself the space and opportunity to play (in the not knowing), to be creative. When I go back to work: I am refreshed, I have more fun, I get the task done quicker and easier. The bonus is, I attract cooking clients into my life, just because I allow myself to have fun.
Don’t be like most adults, take life too seriously and have forgotten HOW to have fun. You have creativity, be playful and stay curious, in order to discover what is awaiting you and your life.
The road to clarity is never a straight line. Be willing to play in not knowing (not having the answer at a particular moment), but leaving the door open to an answer.
Ask more questions:
- Who do I need to talk to?
- Is there a new skill that I need to learn?
- What do I need to stop doing?
- How will I appreciate myself today?
- Will I dare to speak my mind (my truth) today?
Your heart will not push, it is quiet and requires your patience because you have an untrained ear.
Be fearless and ask your heart the big questions. If you need guidance in training your ears to hear your heart, let’s talk: http://fondaclayton.com/lets-talk
Once you have asked yourself the big questions and listened to your heart, it’s time to take action.
This can be the scariest part, but it’s also the most exciting. It’s time to start making changes and pursuing what truly sets your soul on fire.
Remember, this doesn’t have to happen overnight. Take small steps each day towards your dreams and goals.
Celebrate your progress and be kind to yourself along the way. It’s also important to surround yourself with positivity and support.
Here is the part that rarely gets mentioned: you must be ‘positive’ and supportive in order to attract proper support. It also means not to be or tolerate toxic positivity where the gas tank is empty, you put a happy sticker over it and decide on going on a road trip. This ain’t what you want.
Find a community or network of like-minded individuals are uplifting and encouraging and who want the same in return. This sounds like an interviewing process doesn’t it? That’s because it is.
Trusting your inner guidance, keep listening to your heart as you are in certain spaces, because folks can say all the right things and something doesn’t sit right in your gut? Move accordingly.
No one promised you an easy journey, a spiritual led life is fulfilling but no one I know of understands their own mastery without bumps in the road.
So go ahead and take that first step towards following your heart.
Your future self will thank you for it.
